Canada’s new immigration targets: What does it mean for you?

In October 2020, the Canadian government detailed its plan to welcome over 1.23 million permanent residents into Canada by 2023. Even though the pandemic has put some restraints on Canadian immigration, Canada continues to remain resilient in its plans to increase the number of permanent residents year over year. The following changes will be made to the immigration streams currently available through the IRCC.

It should be noted that over 80% of Canada’s population growth came from permanent and non-permanent immigration and with the new immigration plan, Canada is putting a lot of emphasis on addressing labour growth by investing in immigration.

The federal government has already started consulting with provinces and territories in regards to creating a municipal nominee program where Canadian municipalities can introduce immigration programs to address their economic needs. This is good news for all prospective immigrants who are immigrating to Canada.
